Mother’s Day Portraits 2026

A considered portrait session for mothers and their children

“Those first weeks after my baby was born were a bit of a blur. I felt overwhelmed, tired and definitely not my best. The session with Alina was surprisingly therapeutic and it just gave me space to slow down and see how beautiful this time really was. I still cry when I look at the images. They mean so much to me.”-Lisa, Kew

Mother’s Day sessions take place in my natural light studio and are designed to feel calm, unrushed and intimate — a chance to slow down and just be with your children.

The focus is on the connection: the cuddles, the leaning in, the moments that happen naturally when nothing is forced. Kids are free to move, play and be themselves, and the session gently follows their lead.

Why book a Mother’s Day session

For many mums, these end up being the photographs they’re missing — the ones where they’re finally in the frame, not behind the camera.

Warm, emotive images that hold this season of life exactly as it was, and that you’ll come back to again and again.

You can book a session for yourself, or it can be a thoughtful and meaningful gift for Mother’s Day.

The experience

Mother’s Day portraits are:

  • gently guided, not posed

  • focused on connection rather than perfection

  • suitable for mothers with babies, toddlers or more than one child

Sessions take place in a softly styled studio setting, designed to feel relaxed and home-like.

What to wear

Soft neutrals and earthy tones photograph beautifully — off-white, cream, beige, warm browns and muted shades all work especially well. It’s best to avoid very dark colours, which can feel heavy in the studio light.

Cozy knits, simple denim, beautiful co-ords and relaxed sets are all great options, as are flowing blouses and dresses. Your outfit can be as simple or as elevated as you like — from soft loungewear to something a little more fashion-forward.

Outfits don’t need to match, but it’s worth coordinating the colours your children are wearing so everything sits together naturally.

A curated selection of dresses and pieces will be available to borrow from the studio wardrobe if you’d like.

Breastfeeding and skin-on-skin

If you’re breastfeeding, you’re very welcome to document that during your session. I love capturing these moments — they’re tender, honest, and such an important part of this season of motherhood.

Some mothers also choose to include skin-to-skin moments, keeping things very simple and intimate. This is always led by your comfort level, and there’s no expectation either way.

I have a small selection of robes available in the studio, and you’re also very welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

Everything is approached gently and with care, allowing you to move at your own pace and choose what feels right for you.
