BREASTFEEDING PHOTOSHOOT IN LONDON

A record of something that ends.

Feeding your baby takes up hours of every day, and then it stops - usually without a last time you can point to. Most mothers have almost no photographs of it. These sessions are for that.

A breastfeeding session is just us: you, your baby, and me working with natural light e. We photograph a feed as it happens, at home, in the park or in my garden studio in St Margarets. If you bottle-feed or combination feed, that is photographed in the same way.

Older children are welcome to join.

“I keep going back to look at the photos…

I booked this about three weeks before I went back to work. I’d been dreading it and I think I wanted something to mark the end of that time, just the two of us at home, before it all changed. It was a bit of a bittersweet morning if I’m honest, but I’m so glad I did it. We’re both fine, he loves nursery, and I have these photos of what it was like when it was just us.

Where we shoot

In my garden studio - St Margarets, Richmond

Private, warm, an armchair by the window and a sofa. Parking on site and nobody else in the building. Pieces for mums in the client wardrobe if you want them.

At home

Your own bed, your own chair, the light you feed by every day. I come to you across Richmond, Twickenham and West London - travel within 45 minutes of TW1 is included.

n the park - warmer months
From late spring to early autumn, a feed on a blanket under the trees in Richmond Park or Bushy Park, in the last hour of light. We pick a quiet spot, and you can bring a muslin or shawl if you’d like a little cover.

As part of a newborn or motherhood session

Many families add a feed to a newborn or motherhood session rather than booking separately. Both routes work - tell me which you'd prefer.

Not sure which is right for you? We'll talk it through during your consultation.

“Feeding was really hard for us in the beginning, so I wasn’t sure about having it photographed. I’m so glad I did. By then it was the calmest part of our day and that’s exactly what the photos feel like. Alina made it all very easy and relaxed. These are the photos I’ll keep forever.

Breastfeeding photoshoot FAQs

Will I have to show more than I'm comfortable with?

No. We agree beforehand what's visible, and you see every photograph before anyone else does. Many of the images are close crops or black and white.

What if feeding doesn't go well on the day?

We photograph what happens - holding, settling, a bottle. There's no version of the session that doesn't work.

When is the best time?

Any time you're feeding, from the newborn weeks to a toddler. If you're planning ahead, the first three months is when most mothers book.

Can my partner or older children be in some of the photographs?

Yes. Some sessions are just mother and baby; others include the whole family for part of the time.

Do you photograph bottle-feeding?

Yes, in exactly the same way.

Where is the studio?

Apple Grove Studio is in St Margarets, Richmond (TW1). St Margarets, Twickenham and Richmond stations are all within walking distance, and there's parking on site.

How do I book?

A £250 deposit secures your date, with the balance due three days before your session. Once you've booked I'll send a short questionnaire and we'll arrange your consultation.

Is this part of a newborn or motherhood session?

It can be. Breastfeeding photographs are also part of my newborn and motherhood sessions - tell me which you'd prefer and we'll plan around it.
